Repair - Modding - Restore

New Street Fighter IV impressions, it's fast

Gaming site 1UP has continued its exclusive coverage on all things Street Fighter IV with a fresh preview. They had some limited time with the game and report back that upon grabbing the joysticks, selecting characters and pressing start that the game is indeed fast. A few other bits of information are revealed such as the saving system which replaces the parry and word of the super combos which are just like regular combos but just that little bit more super.

The Saving system is what Ono hopes will satisfy the hardcore players looking forward to battling it out in SFIV. By now it's no secret that Street Fighter III's much-loved Parry system is out, and 'saving' is in. First of all, the Saving system isn't a fancy name for saving your game. While Capcom U.S. works out a title that's punchier and, hopefully, more descriptive for the North American market, the system-currently-known-as-the-Saving-system is the branching, one size-fits-all multi-faceted palette of play mechanics in SFIV that expert players should be able to wring some truly exciting results out of once the game reaches the general public. But to know the Saving system you must first understand...

The great Xbox 360 surprise

After last year's Wii surprise, the parents just couldn't wrap up the Xbox 360 and put it under the tree, oh no they had to add a big element of surprise for the kids...

Big Rumor: MS contracts Wii remote prototype company for motion peripheral

Now here is a very dubious rumor that MS are planning a motion sensing controller on par with the Wiimote ready for a release by the end of the next year. The source indicates that they have contracted Gyration to create the peripheral which is the same firm that was esponsible for the prototype designs of the Wiimote.

quote:
Hardcore gamers have known for sometime that it’s not too difficult to add motion-sensing functionality to the 360. With homebrew add-ons being worked on for the last year or so like the Xilt mod , it seemed only a matter of time before MS decided to release their own peripheral.

It appears Microsoft has contracted the Saratoga, California firm, Gyration to handle the peripheral. If that name sounds familiar, it’s for good reason. Gyration is the company responsible for the prototype designs of the Nintendo Wii-mote, which we all know has become a huge success. Most recently, the company was in the spotlight for creating a motion-sensing remote for Microsoft’s Media Center.

While details are still a bit thin on when “exactly” we’ll see this technology, we’re still excited at the prospect of new interactivity with our Xbox 360 games. There's also no word on whether or not the new add-on will incorporate the motion-sensing technology that MS successfully patented last year.

Xbox 360 gets Devil May Cry 4 bundle too in Japan

So it is not just the PS3 that will receive a Devil May Cry 4 bundle, it has been confirmed that the Xbox 360 is set to also receive an equivalent bundle offering. The current Japan only bundle includes the standard Xbox 360 model, a 20GB HD, wireless controller, media remote, HD AV cables and LAN cable.

The Japan-only bundle includes a Xbox 360 Standard Model, which is the Japanese version of America's Premium Pack, complete with a 20 gigabyte hard disk, wireless controller, media remote, HD AV cables and LAN cable. All hardware units in the bundle will have HDMI ports, so you'll get to experience the included retail copy of DMC4 in digital bliss.

All this in a special DMC4-themed box, for just 37,800 yen! In addition to being a 4,000 yen discount over buying the system and game separately, this price is exactly 10,000 yen less than the recently announced PS3 bundle, providing some incentive for DMC fans to jump in.

Xbox Live takes another hit on Christmas Day

Reports indicate that the Xbox Live service was not only down on December 23rd, but also outages were experienced by some on December 24th and December 25th. This most likely indicates that the influx of new Xbox 360 owners over the Christmas period was just too hot to handle for MS immediately.

My xbox live failed again today and I called XBOX live. They said Xbox live was down but my friends are on line.

NY Times awards Mass Effect the best game of the year award

The NY Times has awarded Mass Effect the best game of the year award. Elsewhere BioShock won best newcomer, best single handed rescue of a major game system went to Ratchet & Clank and most difficult delivery went to E3 amongst other awards.

quote:
GAME OF THE YEAR: MASS EFFECT Story and characters aren’t everything, but these components of narrative have always been the weakest part of video games. For decades games have made up in frenetic action what they have lacked in dramatic depth. And that is a big reason why games have traditionally appealed most strongly to the demographic group that most enjoys frenetic action: young men. In its choice of milieu — science fiction — Mass Effect is not ambitious at all. But with its focus on character development, personal growth and moral tension, all fueled by a graphics system created to evoke emotional empathy, Mass Effect points the way forward. It may be a harbinger of a time when story and character are as important to video games as explosions.

MS kicks off beta scheme to donate MS points as a gift

In similar fashion to Nintendo, Microsoft has kicked off a beta version of a scheme which will allow any Xbox Live or MS platform user to donate MS points to a friend as a gift. Right now, the scheme is limited but the aim is to make it able to give points to friends via using just their gamertag.

Scottish Government uses Xbox games to deliver anti drink-driving adverts

Multiple reports confirm that the Scottish Government is to spend £10,000 on adverts on virtual billboards within Xbox 360 games to promote anti drik-driving messages. The adverts will be spotted by Xbox 360 gamers playing online versions of NFS: Carbon, PGR 4 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. If the respective trial is successful then it is expected that there will be more of the same.

quote:
Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson said the innovative initiative was a "huge opportunity" to get the anti-drink driving message to a new audience.

Mr Stevenson said: "With statistics showing that road deaths, particularly among young people, are continuing to rise, it is clear we must look at new ways of getting road safety messages across."This is exactly the kind of initiative we should be trying."It is innovative, it is new, and it is far removed from the more traditional methods we have been using. I believe that is what we need if we are to reverse the number of Scots families suffering the tragedy of a loved one being lost."More than 70% of 15 to 24 year olds in the UK have a gaming console in their home. The Scottish Government said the adverts would be non-intrusive and subtle, while still getting the message across "loud and clear."
